Self-Isolation Diaries – Week 109

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I started back at Push to Walk, went to my first live concert of the year, and watched hella baseball. Daily summaries below!

Day Seven Hundred and Fifty-Seven (4/8/22)

  • Called my father to wish him a happy birthday.
  • Zoomed into a medieval conference because one of my colleagues was giving a presentation.
  • Sent a return package. ‘Twas nice to find a reason to go outside.
  • Dang, that was a great Yankees season opener.
  • My boyfriend’s here!
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: I feel like I got a lot done today. Huzzah!
  • Currently looping: The Shins’ “Oh, Inverted World” was remastered for its 20-year anniversary.

Day Seven Hundred and Fifty-Eight (4/9/22)

  • My boyfriend and I baked shortbread cookies ^_^
  • And we watched some “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “The Simpsons.” Nice lazy Saturday.
  • Gradually trying to get my boyfriend into baseball. So far…eh?
  • Wordle: In four!
  • Currently feeling: Cookies!
  • Currently looping: I played a live Hans Zimmer album while we baked cookies. Usually I play a bunch of Disney songs, but my guy’s not caught up on his Disney animated musicals yet.

Day Seven Hundred and Fifty-Nine (4/10/22)

  • My boyfriend introduced me to the original Japanese “Iron Chef” show and it’s so over the top, I love it.
  • FaceTimed my sister so she could meet my boyfriend, and we wished her a happy birthday!
  • More baseball! Alas, the Mets could not finish the sweep.
  • One of my former Push to Walk trainers called to let me know he was leaving the gym (hence my calling him a “former” trainer). Alas. I shall miss him.
  • Sunday Night Baseball! Yay, baseball! It’s kind of nice when the Mets and Yankees play at different times. I just like baseball.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: Huzzah for baseball!
  • Currently looping: Billie Eilish’s “Oxytocin” from her Disney+ concert experience.

Day Seven Hundred and Sixty (4/11/22)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Music hangout! Wow, it’s been a while. And then I felt motivated to do some vocal exercises right after. Huzzah to going back to music things!
  • Did some laundry. Very exciting stuff.
  • One of the #triotime gals stopped by to catch up! And then we chatted while I hung up laundry on my drying rack.
  • Writing workshop! At long last! We rescheduled like, five times. Writing buddy and I also witnessed both of our teams lose during the workshop, so, there was that (well, his team was still technically playing after we hung up, but still).
  • Phoneday! =)
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: Wow, today was busy! Huzzah!
  • Currently looping: Oh, you thought I was done with listening to live performances of Lorna Shore’s “To the Hellfire.” Nope. Will Ramos’ vocal brilliance continues to astound.

Day Seven Hundred and Sixty-One (4/12/22)

  • So someone shot up a subway car at a station that, years ago, my sister and I passed through everyday on our way to high school, and that my parents passed through everyday on their way to work. Freaking terrifying, and so thankful that no one was killed (and very hopeful that no one sustained a serious injury).
  • It was my first day back at Push to Walk in months! ‘Twas awesome to work with one of my trainers again, and I heard that two trainers I really liked working with have both left. <sadness>
  • My boyfriend and I went to a Yuja Wang concert at Carnegie Hall. She’s like the Tina Guo of piano, in that she’s basically a rock star with hella classical training. She played a piano wearing a sparkly see-through dress (with a shift underneath) and what looked like six-inch heels. And then she did an outfit change during the intermission, and the second outfit with this tight magenta dress with a thigh-high slit, and matching six-inch heels (or maybe they were the same heels from before, I was sitting pretty far away). Oh, and she played complicated piano runs like it was nothing. I was watching like DANG. My piano queen.
  • And she did five encores! FIVE!
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: Huzzah for date night!
  • Currently looping: Just watching Yuja Wang like DANG.

Day Seven Hundred and Sixty-Two (4/13/22)

  • Looking for an awesome sports podcast? Look no further than Takeline, hosted by Jason Concepcion (from Grantland, The Ringer, and my favorite nerdy podcast (RIP) Binge Mode). They post new episodes on Tuesdays. Okay, I’m done.
  • Thought there was a talk at 1pm that I was supposed to zoom into, only to find that it was at noon and I missed it. D’OH.
  • Yay, Mets! They’re currently in first place, so of course I’m like, “I love my Mets and I’m rooting for them, but I’m also mentally preparing myself for when the slump will inevitably hit, because these are the Mets.”
  • They caught the shooter!
  • Went to the dentist. No cavities, so, huzzah! (Though she did tell me to get an electric toothbrush.) And I ran into my sister’s former boss in the waiting room as I was leaving, which was like, “Whaaa?!” But still nifty ^_^
  • Stopped at Muji and got a tiny paper shredder. It’s adorable and I love it.
  • Then got a matcha latte, because there’s a wheelchair-sort-of-accessible location right by my dentist’s office (the door is so effing heavy to get in, though).
  • Called my sister to tell her that I ran into her former boss.
  • Um, yeah, that’s what I’ve been saying about “Legends of Tomorrow”! It’s spectacular!
  • Went to get some takeout, and one of the staff recognized me (I went there pretty much once a week before my procedure back in January), and he gave me a free dessert ^_^
  • Phoneday =)
  • Wordle: In four!
  • Currently feeling: I didn’t get any academic work done today, but I’d been putting off the dentist visit for a while, so, at least I got something done.
  • Currently looping: Nightwish’s live performance of “Amaranth,” with Floor Jansen as the lead singer.

Day Seven Hundred and Sixty-Three (4/14/22)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Zoomed into a talk about the state of scholarship of the early medieval middle east. The gist of the talk seemed to be, “Hey, people who study this stuff aren’t being horribly biased and Islamophobic anymore!” Hooray for the field? (It was a more detailed and nuanced talk than that.)
  • This genius put all the towels in the washing machine only to realize that these would be necessary for drying my face after washing it. Whoops.
  • Cleaned hella makeup brushes.
  • Phoneday! =)
  • Wordle: In three!
  • Currently feeling: Overwhelmed. Didn’t get nearly enough work done today.
  • Currently looping: The Twee playlist on Spotify. I see your judgment and do not care.

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, wear a mask (those numbers are going up), and enjoy some baseball!
