Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I got very disappointing news from my surgeon, watched my bracket burn, and worked on a lesson plan. Daily summaries below!
Day Seven Hundred and Thirty-Six (3/18/22)
- That feeling when the drainage has slowed, but instead now there’s swelling. It hurts like hell.
- And my surgeon wants me to come in on Monday.
- DAMNIT.
- UGH.
- WHY.
- I JUST WANT THIS NOT TO BOTHER ME ANYMORE.
- Measurements were taken for the fridge. It should fit. Huzzah!
- My boyfriend’s coming over to keep me company.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: STUPID SWELLING NEAR THE DRAINAGE SITE.
- Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Julien”
Day Seven Hundred and Thirty-Seven (3/19/22)
- Well, the swelling has exploded (ruptured?). There is an alarming amount of blood and pus. Well, alarming for me. Most medical professionals would be like, “Eh, that’s NBD.”
- Called the surgeon. He gave pretty basic site cleaning instructions and was like, “I’ll see you on Monday.”
- My boyfriend cheered me up with a binge watch of “Is It Cake?” on Netflix, which is a delightfully ridiculous show.
- Movie night! Except two people couldn’t make it, so we ended up watching more “Is It Cake?” with everyone else.
- Wordle: Whoops
- Currently feeling: Well, the pain has subsided, but things are not looking good post-op.
- Currently looping: “Is It Cake?” I suppose?
Day Seven Hundred and Thirty-Eight (3/20/22)
- Well, the pain has continued to subside, but stuff is still draining out. Alas.
- Finished watching “Is It Cake?”
- Oh, lazy Sunday. Went outside with the boyfriend and watched dogs in the nearby dog park. Then got dinner.
- I don’t think I opened my laptop all day?
- Wordle: In three!
- Currently feeling: It was really nice to go outside! But also, drainage sadness.
- Currently looping: The “Ratatouille” soundtrack.
Day Seven Hundred and Thirty-Nine (3/21/22)
- My boyfriend accompanied me to the surgeon’s office, where I was told exactly what I was worried about: the procedure was not successful. It was a false positive earlier, I guess. My options are to redo the surgery or go with a permanent temporary solution. In the meantime, I need antibiotics. I cried in the bathroom.
- And then my boyfriend accompanied me to the giant water fountain at Lincoln Center and we wandered around midtown while he tried to cheer me up.
- Then he cooked me dinner.
- I don’t think I deserve this boy.
- Oh, and I got my period. You know, because that’s how my life is.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: It was really nice to go outside, but ugh, that post-op stuff really took a lot out of me. I know the success rate of the procedure was only 65%, but I don’t know, it’s like my body doesn’t want to heal.
- Currently looping: Didn’t listen to much music today, so, er, the sounds of the city?
Day Seven Hundred and Fourty (3/22/22)
- Did the FES cycle.
- Worked on something for the class I’m taking over in a couple of weeks. Amidst all the chaos, I have a deadline in a couple of days. Yikes!
- My boyfriend introduced me to “Hot Ones.” ‘Tis amusing.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: It’s hitting me that after basically two months, I have to go back to square one with procedure-related stuff. <massive sigh> I mean, not much I can do about it. It was the best decision at the time. I just wish it turned out better.
- Currently looping: Lorde’s “Solar Power” album.
Day Seven Hundred and Forty-One (3/23/22)
- Doctor’s appointment. (It wasn’t post-op related.)
- Hung out with the boyfriend in SoHo (he’s on vacation (well, staycation), that’s why he keeps showing up in these posts).
- Worked on my lesson plan things. There’s this one passage of Latin that is far dirtier than I remember it being, so that should be fun for these students to read in my botched English translation.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: Bit sleepy, but I’m almost done with this lesson plan!
- Currently looping: The “Amélie” soundtrack by Yann Tiersen.
Day Seven Hundred and Forty-Two (3/24/22)
- My boyfriend met my parents. Has it even been three months? No. Did it seem like a perfectly natural thing to do? Yup.
- Of course they liked him. He’s sweet AF.
- The boyfriend and I have been watching “Hot Ones” so often that we just ordered wings.
- Aaaand Gonzaga’s out. Goodbye, bracket.
- Finished this lesson plan and handout! I’ll review them tomorrow and then send them to the postdoc.
- Wordle: In five!
- Currently feeling: I still have to email my advisor to give him a chapter update. Oof.
- Currently looping: My VALentine playlist.
Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, go outside, and check in on your friends who foolishly made brackets.
