Self-Isolation Diaries – Week 100

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. I can’t believe we’re at the one hundredth week. Yikes. This week, I continued my recovery, watched many winter Olympic sports, and watched hella Disney+ things. Daily summaries below!

Day Six Hundred and Ninety-Four (2/4/22)

  • Post-Op Countdown: Day Eight of Thirty-Nine
  • Not as much pain today. Huzzah!
  • But still some pain. Ow.
  • My father stopped by briefly to drop off some things for my mother. I think in my parents’ optimism, they thought I’d be able to manage more things on my own by now. Alas, such is not the case yet. Still working on it, though.
  • Standing frame!
  • Abbreviated Phoneday date and Wordle =)
  • Wordle: Four guesses. Would’ve been two if I had just gone with my gut. Gah.
  • Currently feeling: About 20% of the way through this process. I can do this. I can do this.
  • Currently looping: Tegan and Sara’s acoustic performance of “Where Does the Good Go.” My heart. Why do I love breakup music so much?

Day Six Hundred and Ninety-Five (2/5/22)

  • Post-Op Countdown: Day Nine of Thirty-Nine
  • Pain has lessened!
  • Got an unexpected delightful phonecall from a college friend. Was lovely to hear her voice again!
  • Reviewed an article I’m writing. Maybe a couple more edits and a runthrough, and then it’ll be okay to send.
  • Did some standing frame today.
  • No, Karen Chen! She just had one jump to go before her brilliant step sequence.
  • Where did this Kagiyama guy come from?! DANG.
  • Wordle: Three guesses!
  • Currently feeling: Tired.
  • Currently looping: Blackpink’s “Kill This Love.” A guy who sent me chocolates a tad early for Valentine’s Day was giving me K-Pop suggestions. And now here we are.

Day Six Hundred and Ninety-Six (2/6/22)

  • Post-Op Countdown: Day Ten of Thirty-Nine
  • Last night was rough. Kept getting up in the middle of the night. Why, oh why, did I think I was above painkillers?
  • Phone call with an SCI nurse who told me that I was actually doing “relatively well!” On the one hand, yikes, but on the other hand, I guess I’ll take it?
  • Caught up with “The Book of Boba Fett.” So much fan service!
  • Worked on editing this article. Many thanks to the awesome #triotime ladies for their help ^_^
  • Wordle: Four guesses!
  • Currently feeling: 25% of the way through. This is rough, even if my progress would be considered doing “relatively well.”
  • Currently looping: Blackpink’s “How You Like That.”

Day Six Hundred and Ninety-Seven (2/7/22)

  • Post-Op Countdown: Day Eleven of Thirty-Nine
  • Slept through the night. Huzzah!
  • Surprise phone call =)
  • More article edits! And then I finally got to continue some much-needed dissertation chapter prep.
  • FIGURE SKATING YESSS! So sad to hear about Vincent Zhou though.
  • Wordle: All six guesses. Geez.
  • Currently feeling: Today was manageable, so, phew!
  • Currently looping: Y2K Remix of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Run Away With Me.”

Day Six Hundred and Ninety-Eight (2/8/22)

  • Post-Op Countdown: Day Twelve of Thirty-Nine. The pain wasn’t as bad as yesterday, so I will take it.
  • Can the internet please stop trying to get my hopes up? Pretty please? I didn’t go looking for this, someone just posted it on Facebook.
  • My mother got me a matcha latte!
  • Finally got around to some solid chapter research! Basically, I have a good idea for what I’m doing for the second half of the chapter, but the first half definitely needs some padding and exposition that I’m still digging into.
  • Call with my bestie! There was some catching up to do.
  • Called to disrupt someone’s workday. Because that’s what I do now =)
  • Got to do some standing!
  • Omg, poor Mikaela Shiffrin! Why won’t they get the camera out of her face? Let her process in peace.
  • Wordle: Four guesses!
  • Currently feeling: Today was productive-ish. I’ll take it.
  • Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Emotion” album. Because of course.

Day Six Hundred and Ninety-Nine (2/9/22)

  • Post-Op Countdown: Day Thirteen of Thirty-Nine (we’re one-third of the way through!)
  • Called to disrupt someone’s workday. Again. I’m a terrible influence =)
  • Therapy! Maybe I’m not such a terrible influence?
  • Matcha latte!
  • Watched “Luca” with my mother. Neither of us had seen it. It’s so cute!
  • YEAH, CHLOE KIM!!! Also, I freaking hate the media for putting so much pressure on these athletes. Just let them do their thing and stop harassing them.
  • Got to do a bit of standing!
  • Staying up past midnight to watch figure skating. YEAH, NATHAN CHEN!!!
  • Wordle: Three guesses!
  • Currently feeling: Two-thirds more of the recovery process to go. I’m tired.
  • Currently looping: Billie Eilish’s SNL performance of “Happier Than Ever.” At first, I didn’t care for her cleaning up the lyrics, but her voice just sounds so good here.

Day Seven Hundred (2/10/22)

  • Post-Op Countdown: Day Fourteen of Thirty-Nine. You know when you’re not sure if something is healing properly, but you’re not the surgeon and ergo have no idea if you’re just being the post-op equivalent of a hypochondriac? Yeah, that’s how that’s going.
  • Finally submitted the article I was working on! Huzzah!
  • Read an article for dissertation chapter preparation.
  • Watched the season finale of “The Book of Boba Fett.” I thought it was cute.
  • My mother and I are watching Olympic half-pipe snowboarding like dang, this is nuts. My mother also has some thoughts on the judging.
  • Did some standing.
  • Wordle: Four guesses!
  • Currently feeling: I just want the surgeon to tell me that everything’s healing fine and I’m just overworrying. I can’t deal with another failure.
  • Currently looping: Lake Street Dive’s “You Go Down Smooth.”

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, get vaccinated/boosted, and watch figure skating! Or any winter sport (as long as you tune out most NBC commentators). I just love watching top athletes do their thing.
