Week of 5/12-5/18

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone is staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I went to a Yankees game (primarily for the bobblehead), finished “The Mandalorian,” and discovered my new favorite horror movie podcast. Daily summaries below!

May 12, 2023

  • Doctor’s appointment. I have a lot of appointments.
  • Worked out with an SCI trainer!
  • Met up with my baseball buddy and took the train to Yankee Stadium. Nearly ended up on the express train that skips Yankee Stadium, but thankfully, we got off in time and transferred to a local train.
  • We went to this particular Yankees game because it was “Star Wars” night and they had a bobblehead of Anthony Rizzo dressed as The Mandalorian. That’s right, my baseball boyfriend was in “Star Wars” cosplay. In bobblehead form.
  • Needless to say, we needed to get this bobblehead.
  • AND WE WERE VICTORIOUS! [Featured image!]
  • We also received like, two offers from people to buy the bobbleheads.
  • They are not for sale.
  • I told my baseball buddy that Rizzo would hit a home run for me. Because he’s just trying to impress me. Because that’s my fantasy world and you can’t tell me otherwise.
  • RIZZO HIT A HOME RUN.
  • WHAT DID I TELL YOU?
  • I also predicted that Rizzo would tie the game, BUT HE WON IT.
  • VICTORY!!!
  • Why yes, I am a Mets fan, but I really wanted this bobblehead. And also, this was a really exciting game. Possibly the most exciting baseball game I’ve been to since that one game I went to in Pittsburgh that had a play at the plate to decide the game.
  • Got back on the train and met up with my boyfriend at the station, who walked me home.
  • Currently feeling: Sweet, sweet bobblehead victory.
  • Currently looping: Not much music today.

May 13, 2023

  • Did the FES cycle and watched another episode of “The Mandalorian.” Dang. So good. Also, when did Lizzo become an actress?
  • My boyfriend and I wandered around outside. He wanted to know where Curry Hill was (Murray Hill is often referred to as Curry Hill because of the density of Indian/South Asian restaurants).
  • Boo, Mets got rained out.
  • Posted a YouTube cover collaboration of “My Heart Will Go On.”
  • Watched another episode of “The Dropout” that felt like a horror movie.
  • Currently feeling: I keep staring at these makeup brushes that need cleaning, and I shall clean them! Someday.
  • Currently looping: Not much music today.

May 14, 2023

  • Lazy Sunday!
  • Alas, the Mets lost the first of the sort of double header (the first game was just the final six or seven innings of the previous game).
  • But at least they won the second game!
  • Saw a bit of the live-action “Lion King” and wow, why did they ever try to top the original?
  • Went out for a long stroll because the weather was beautiful, and then my boyfriend and I got dinner.
  • Currently feeling: It was nice to get some sunshine.
  • Currently looping: Not much music today, but lots of city sounds.

May 15, 2023

  • Admin day!
  • So many phone calls and logistics. And wondering if there’s an insurance appeal process.
  • Worked out with an SCI trainer! My lower back was hella tight.
  • Got my period. Goshdarnit, that does explain why I’m ridiculously tight.
  • Cleaned makeup brushes. This was long overdue.
  • Caught up with a friend from my current program! I’m so bad at keeping in touch with people in my field.
  • Wordle: In four!
  • Currently feeling: I still have more phone calls and emails in the future, but I feel like I got lots done today, even if it wasn’t dissertation related, so yay!
  • Currently looping: Aoife O’Donovan’s “Age of Apathy Solo Sessions” album. Perfection for getting ready for bed.

May 16, 2023

  • No Push to Walk today (my trainer’s out), so I did the FES cycle. Finished “The Mandalorian” season three, and dang, seriously, best season yet.
  • Phone calls and emails, because I have to get all these logistics out of the way before I can get this dissertation work done. I sometimes wonder if my advisor wonders why it takes me so long to get anything done. <sighs>
  • Why is writing fiction more fun than writing my dissertation?
  • The Mets looked like they were going to rally, but then they did not. Getting so many pre-2015 Mets vibes.
  • Digging “Jeopardy! Masters” and dang, sad to see Sam Buttrey in the bottom. He’s such a fun contestant.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: All I did today dissertation-wise was take a book off the shelf. I suppose that’s better than nothing.
  • Currently looping: Ariana Grande’s live performance of “Into You.” So catchy.

May 17, 2023

  • Went to get an MRI, but they said they didn’t have the MRI machine that my doctor asked for.
  • Did you know there was more than one type of MRI machine? Because I sure didn’t.
  • My mother and I got bubble tea afterwards anyway.
  • Seriously, there’s more than one type of MRI machine?
  • Finally did some dissertation work!
  • And had “Jeopardy! Masters” on in the background while I did the standing frame.
  • Ever realize how much stuff you have to do and then start panicking that none of it will get done?
  • Also, I just learned what Apple Keychain is and dang, that sounds like a really secure way to store passwords.
  • Wordle: In two!
  • Currently feeling: SO MUCH STUFF TO GET DONE.
  • Currently looping: Spotify’s Pop Mix.

May 18, 2023

  • Went to Push to Walk, and got to see some trainers I hadn’t seen in a while.
  • Dang, there is a ridiculous amount of traffic.
  • Why is there this much traffic on a Thursday?
  • A while later, my mother and I have our bubble tea!
  • Okay, so, I’m one of those people who is fascinated by the horror genre, but only reads plots on Wikipedia because I can’t handle watching the actual movies. Enter, the podcast “Ruined”! In which there are two people who discuss horror movies, one of whom is a horror buff, and the other is, well, basically like me in their level of fear squeamishness.
  • And they dissect the plot in a way that is engaging, but not terrifying. Well. Not as terrifying.
  • Okay, no, still somewhat terrifying.
  • Now the hosts are reciting famous movie quotes as The Babadook, so I guess it’s not as terrifying again.
  • I missed the Mets game, but yay, they won the Tampa series!
  • And yet, split a series with the Nats earlier this week?
  • Early season baseball is weird.
  • Currently feeling: Too stubborn to turn the heat back on, even though the temperature dropped like, twenty degrees overnight.
  • Currently looping: Not much music today.

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, stay sane, and check out a baseball game (even if it’s not for your team)!
