Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I had a surgery follow-up, watched a ton of baseball, and went outside for a bit. Daily summaries below!
October 7, 2022
- There was less drainage overnight, so, there’s some hope.
- Complained to my therapist about my health woes. Although I guess “venting” is the more appropriate word.
- Got a bit of dissertation reading done.
- Baseball! So much baseball today. My father came over to watch the Phillies-Cardinals game, which was great until the ninth inning. And then it became horribly disappointing.
- We also ordered tacos. Because my mother and I were watching “The Great British Baking Show” and it was Mexico week. The technical involved making corn tacos from scratch. (Although overall the episode has serious “Paul Hollywood did a semester abroad in Mexico and thinks he understands the culture” vibes.)
- The Mets are sad. I’m watching “Lidia’s Kitchen” with my mother.
- Wordle: In five!
- Currently feeling: I really want to heal.
- Currently looping: Didn’t really listen to music today.
October 8, 2022
- Same overnight drainage as yesterday.
- Okay, this Cleveland-Tampa game is going on forever.
- And fifteen innings later, Cleveland wins with a walkoff home run from a guy whose walk-up music is the “Spongebob Squarepants” theme song.
- Folks, you couldn’t make this stuff up.
- After subjecting my mother to a five-hour baseball game, I put on “Coco,” which we both love. Also, we needed something to balance out that ridiculous “Great British Baking Show” Mexican week episode, which we finished today.
- Did some more dissertation reading and standing frame.
- LFGM!
- Wordle: In four!
- Currently feeling: It’s starting to get cool outside. I’m wearing two layers in my apartment now.
- Currently looping: The songs of “Coco.” Seriously, such a phenomenal movie.
October 9, 2022
- Less overnight drainage, so yay for that.
- Did some dissertation stuff, but mostly watched movies with my mother.
- The Jets won? Convincingly?
- And the Giants?
- Okay, these ESPN announcers are so clearly for the Padres that it’s embarrassing. These bitches are supposed to be IMPARTIAL. Instead they’re like, delighting in every hit the Padres get.
- I need to calm down. San Diego’s going to burn to the ground in a few years due to climate change anyway.
- Also, what a ridiculous city. You have to drive to get everywhere. That’s not a city. That’s a glorified suburb.
- My sister assures me they have a downtown area. Fine. They’re a city.
- But I’m not visiting anytime soon.
- And I’m rooting for the Dodgers next round out of spite.
- Well, this was a sad end to the Mets season. And to think, this could’ve all been avoided if they hadn’t gotten swept by the Braves at the end of the season.
- GAH.
- Wordle: In three!
- Currently feeling: Baseball is sad.
- Currently looping: Sad music.
October 10, 2022
- About the same amount of overnight drainage as yesterday.
- My body hurts. Like, I’m sweating. This is a sign of autonomic dysreflexia, which is not fun.
- I would like not to be in pain.
- And I’m tired. My body’s not fighting an infection, though, because I’m nowhere near close to a fever.
- Oh, my body was in pain because my bladder was holding nearly double its usual volume. <groans>
- Spoke with an SCI nurse. My body’s going to need some time to heal.
- Caught up on “House of the Dragon.” Really good episode. But also, I read some plots from the book wiki to see what’s about to happen, because I don’t care about spoilers (and book spoilers might not even happen in the show).
- Kind of happy that there’s no baseball playoffs today. I need a break.
- Wordle: In five!
- Currently feeling: It’s weird. The pain seems to be at its worst when I sit for too long. So now I need to move around.
- Currently looping: More Kamelot.
October 11, 2022
- More overnight drainage. Same as yesterday.
- Went to the surgeon for a follow-up. I should expect this drainage for another couple of weeks while the surgery site heals (right now it’s super inflamed). Then said that if I want this issue to go away (like, the thing I went into the OR for in the first place), then I’d have to do this procedure again (with the knowledge he now has of what went wrong this time).
- I then proceeded to cry in front of the surgeon, because this has been a really difficult three weeks. I mean, it’d be difficult if I was able-bodied. Having to deal with my SCI on top of everything has just been a freaking nightmare. The surgeon handed me tissues. We’re going to see how the site heals in a month, and then figure out where to go from there.
- My mother cheered me up with sushi and bubble tea.
- Switched cranberry pills because the ones I was currently on changed their formula. I am not a fan of these new ones. Time to try others.
- RIP to a legend. Angela Lansbury will be missed.
- Wtf, Seattle Mariners, you had ONE JOB.
- Wordle: In three!
- Currently feeling: Turns out that crying in front of your surgeon is highly cathartic.
- Currently looping: The sounds of postseason baseball (after I said I wanted to take a break, whoops).
October 12, 2022
- Less drainage this morning, so yay, I’ll take the win.
- Went to my gynecologist’s office only to find that the elevator was out of order. And no one had bothered to call me (they know I use a wheelchair). UGH.
- At least I went outside. It was like, really nice out.
- And I wheeled around for a bit. Very slowly, but hey, movement is movement.
- Dang, this Dodgers-Padres game is intense.
- Wordle: In five!
- Currently feeling: Thankful that I could go outside and wheel around for a bit today.
- Currently looping: Different versions of “God Help the Outcasts” from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Freaking love this song.
October 13, 2022
- Same drainage as yesterday.
- A wheelchair repairman came by to replace my tires and front casters, only to find that both the wheel company and the wheelchair company (that’s right, two different companies) sent me the wrong items. So he just cleaned my front casters and spoke to each company with me to get the correct items shipped to me.
- Side note, the wheelchair repairman was awesome. Seriously, if you need a chair repaired, check him out.
- Also just had to deal with other things, like how my shower has been causing water damage to other units in my building. So that’s been fun.
- Got an email that the heat went out in the main library on campus. So glad not to be on campus (but also it’s not super cold, so that’s good).
- Okay, whose idea was it to have the ALDS and NLDS start on the same day? That’s not how that’s supposed to work. The ALDS starts first, and then the NLDS starts on the next day. If they had done that, the Yankees wouldn’t have been rained out. Harrumph.
- Wordle: In four!
- Currently feeling: Seriously, how did two companies send me the wrong items?
- Currently looping: More “God Help the Outcasts” because dang, such a good song.
Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, get your boosters, and watch some playoff baseball!
