Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I put together a chapter bibliography, watched more Mets games, and listened to a bunch of new albums. Daily summaries below!
Day Eight Hundred and Sixty-Nine (7/29/22)
- Went to Push to Walk! Got to show off the new tattoo.
- Bubble tea!
- Sent some emails. Very exciting stuff.
- Yeah, Mets! Dang, Mark Canha is very happy for Brandon Nimmo’s go-ahead homer.
- Same, Mark, same.
- Wordle: In four!
- Currently feeling: Like I want to celebrate all my friends’ accomplishments the way that Mark Canha celebrates Brandon Nimmo’s.
- Currently looping: Switching between the Mets, Yankees, and Giants games. There’s a lot of baseball in this apartment on a regular basis.
Day Eight Hundred and Seventy (7/30/22)
- Did the FES cycle. Watched the season finale of “Ms. Marvel” and fine, I skipped the entire season, but I listened to recaps, so it was pretty easy to follow. The finale was great, though.
- My boyfriend’s here! We went grocery shopping, which I find really fun for some reason?
- Yay, Mets!
- The tattoo second-skin bandage is coming off. I should get that dial antibacterial soap that the tattoo artist recommended for when the bandage is totally off.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: Kind of sleepy, but what else is new?
- Currently looping: My Facebook music group’s latest album-of-the-week was Rise Against’s “The Sufferer & The Witness” from 2006. Pretty good album!
Day Eight Hundred and Seventy-One (7/31/22)
- Yay, Mets!
- Got some dissertation chapter planning done. Looking forward to oodles of August research.
- Watched “Jennifer’s Body” with my boyfriend, which continues his streak of choosing ridiculous films made in the mid-aughts.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: Forgot to clean my makeup brushes. Whoops. Maybe tomorrow. But also, chapter planning!
- Currently looping: Listening to Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” album.
Day Eight Hundred and Seventy-Two (8/1/22)
- Did the FES cycle.
- That feeling when you put together a bibliography and realize you still need to add a bunch more entries. And many of the things you thought you read earlier in the research process have not actually been read, and are sitting as PDFs in your dissertation folder. Whoops.
- Tattoo healing is itchy. I keep applying Aquaphor so that I don’t feel tempted to scratch, but augh, so itchy.
- Oh snap, wheelchair van life is a thing. I have no interest in it, but it’s still cool to see other people who do it.
- There are so many tabs open in my browser of articles I need to read.
- Wordle: In four!
- Currently feeling: I might need a few weeks to get through all this reading material before I can start writing this chapter. Or maybe a couple of weeks. The jury’s out. But dang, going through my bibliography was helpful AF.
- Currently looping: Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile performing “A Case of You” at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival.
Day Eight Hundred and Seventy-Three (8/2/22)
- Went to Push to Walk!
- Bubble tea!
- Laundry!
- I’m writing down some recipes in a notebook because I need to relearn how to cook.
- DeGrom is back! And of course, the Mets offense takes a nap while he’s pitching.
- Kind of bummed that Noah Syndergaard (i.e. Thor) and David Robertson (formerly of the Yankees) are going to the Phillies.
- Why are the Mets losing to the Nats right now?
- RIP, Vin Scully. To the non-baseball fandom, he was a broadcasting legend.
- Shower wheelchair replaced! Huzzah!
- Wordle: In six!
- Currently feeling: So much happening, so tired, but also feeling so accomplished for doing laundry?
- Currently looping: Sarah Jarosz’s “Undercurrent” album. Haven’t given this a whole listen in a while.
Day Eight Hundred and Seventy-Four (8/3/22)
- Zoomed into a dissertation defense on a super cool topic until my phone battery was like, “Charge me now.”
- Mostly an administrative day. Called insurance and finding out they don’t cover shower wheelchairs. <sigh>
- The Facebook music group I’m in had a strange “album of the week” this week. Very strange (“Text” by Text from 2001).
- Yay, Mets!
- Looking for super simple recipes because I am trying to expand my cooking repertoire beyond grilled cheese (although let’s face it, I love grilled cheese). This could be a contender?
- Wordle: In four!
- Currently feeling: And we’re back to going to bed way too late because I have highly unimpressive time management skills (i.e. I like to stay up to watch “The Daily Show” even though I know it’ll be on YouTube pretty quickly).
- Currently looping: Spiritbox’s self-titled EP.
Day Eight Hundred and Seventy-Five (8/4/22)
- Wanted to do the bike, but my body was in a bit of pain.
- Did a virtual doctor visit, and the doctor referred me to a specialist to make sure the pain isn’t from something serious.
- Ugh, body, why.
- First harsh vocal lesson in like, a year! I’ve actually improved despite not having done this for a year, so, yay!
- Then spent an hour after the lesson singing around my apartment. Turns out harsh vocals can help clean vocals.
- Yay, Mets!
- Wordle: In three!
- Currently feeling: I would very much like for the thing that is ailing me not to be serious. Please?
- Currently looping: Maya Hawke’s “Thérèse.” The music video’s a bit NSFW (the link is to the official audio), but the audio is so charming. Who knew Maya Hawke (yes, Robin from “Stranger Things”) had such a delicate singing voice?
Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, wear a mask, and listen to a new album!
