Self-Isolation Diaries – Week 117

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I watched hella sports, finally went back to Push to Walk, and finished writing the bulk of a rough draft of a dissertation chapter! Daily summaries below!

Day Eight Hundred and Thirteen (6/3/22)

  • Went to Push to Walk for the first time in like, three weeks. Went well! Got to handcycle a bit, too.
  • My mother and I tried a new bubble tea place! And ‘twas magnificent.
  • One of the #triotime gals stopped by for a brief visit. ‘Twas lovely to see her =)
  • Let’s go Rangers!!
  • And the Mets are not having the best time in LA. Alas.
  • Wordle: In three!
  • Currently feeling: Didn’t get any dissertationing done today, but that’s okay, there was exercise and bubble tea.
  • Currently looping: You know the foghorn that plays when the home team scores a goal at MSG? Yeah, that.

Day Eight Hundred and Fourteen (6/4/22)

  • Coco Gauff did so well just getting to the Roland-Garros finals. She’ll be back.
  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Dissertationing! So much dissertationing! And so much of it feels like rambling. Also, I definitely need to add in some more footnotes or something. But on the other hand, when I’m just analyzing a primary source, boy can I ramble.
  • We’re looking at another long chapter. But hey, gotta start somewhere.
  • I missed National Doughnut Day! ‘Twas yesterday. But hey, I got bubble tea yesterday, so, as long as noms were had, it’s all good.
  • Oh man, this Mets game is wild. And listening to Gary Cohen roast the Dodgers’ all blue uniforms is a mood: “The pants look like a cross between skinny jeans and yoga pants.”
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: While dissertationing, I got so nervous over the feedback on my Latin from the previous chapter that I’m basically just working with translations from scholars who definitely have better Latin than mine (and then cross-referencing with the original to make sure it makes sense, because it’s much easier to check someone else’s Latin than to translate on the fly). Oof. And of course, when the translation doesn’t look right, I do it myself. Slowly, and awkwardly. Oh, this lady needs someone to look over her Latin before this chapter goes to the advisor. Any takers? I can pay in eternal gratitude and chocolate.
  • Currently looping: My “Burn Things” playlist, which has been pretty effective dissertation music for this chapter. I don’t know, each chapter is different. The first chapter was a mix of Chopin and Hans Zimmer. I think another chapter had a lot of Carly Rae Jepsen?

Day Eight Hundred and Fifteen (6/5/22)

  • Hooray for Nadal! 14 French Open titles. Dang.
  • My boyfriend’s out of quarantine! We ordered doughnuts and watched hella baseball. Because that’s what you do when you finish covid protocols?
  • Oof, tough Rangers loss. I have faith in their next game!
  • Let’s go Mets!
  • My boyfriend is insisting that I watch “Borat.” I have never seen this movie before, but I’ve heard it’s kind of all sorts of ridiculous?
  • Watched “Borat.” Wow. That was cringe.
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: Huzzah for an end to covid protocols! Still have no idea where we picked it up. Ah, well. Also huzzah for lazy Sundays!
  • Currently looping: The sounds of baseball?

Day Eight Hundred and Sixteen (6/6/22)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Tried working out in my building gym! Can’t reach most cables without assistance.
  • Went outside! And journeyed to the Guitar Center near Union Square. Wow, that place is severely understaffed. And the one staff guy in the acoustic guitar room totally ignored me. Rude.
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: Didn’t get much work done today, but the week is young!
  • Currently looping: My “Burn Things” playlist.

Day Eight Hundred and Seventeen (6/7/22)

  • Went to Push to Walk! More handcycling!
  • Not a great day for NY sports (well, unless you’re a Yankees fan).
  • So tired. I blame my period.
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: Sleepy, and thinking that my arms are going to be hella sore tomorrow.
  • Currently looping: The sound of the Mets getting shut out by the Padres?

Day Eight Hundred and Eighteen (6/8/22)

  • Watched the latest episode of “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Dang, this show is awesome.
  • Therapy!
  • Dissertation day! At last, the roughest of drafts is kind of sort of on paper! I need to fix hella footnotes, so that’s going to take a while, but hey, the main text is on the page!
  • Got in a writing zone and nearly forgot to eat, because that’s what happens when you get the main text on the page. It’s pretty much a 10,000-word chapter (20 pages single-spaced), so yeah, that took a while. Is it any good? <shrugs> I need to read it through.
  • Oh Mets, I do hope all the injured players get better soon.
  • Wordle: In four!
  • Currently feeling: I also emailed my advisor to let him know that the chapter draft will be sent at the end of next week, so, that’s supposed to hold me accountable.
  • Currently looping: Unleash the Archer’s live set from a concert they did at Alcatraz last September. Love Brittney Slayes.

Day Eight Hundred and Nineteen (6/9/22)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Got lunch with my parents, and then stopped by my favorite place to buy tea.
  • Finally went through my mail. So much junk mail.
  • Got dinner with the #triotime ladies! It’s been months since I’ve seen them! We caught up, and then tried a new gelato place. The frozen dairy product we were served did not resemble gelato. I cannot fathom why the line at this shop was as long as it was.
  • Alas, Rangers.
  • Sent emails that I’ve been putting off for a couple of days. I refuse to let these emails go unanswered for yet another day.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: So tired. But the emails have been sent. I can’t wait to submit this chapter draft to my advisor, so that I can tidy up my kitchen table, which is covered in books I need for this chapter and junk mail.
  • Currently looping: Unleash the Archer’s “Abyss” album. I may have to write my fifth chapter to this album.

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, wear a mask, and check out Unleash the Archers!
