Self-Isolation Diaries – Week 98

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as possible. This week, I got some dissertation planning done, watched some crazy NFL playoffs, and had a medical procedure done. Daily summaries below!

Day Six Hundred and Eighty (1/21/22)

  • Wow, it is COLD outside.
  • Went to Push to Walk! It’ll be my last time for a couple of months. <sadness>
  • Worked a bit more on getting through this article.
  • My mother and I had ramen and watched Amy Schneider tie the “Jeopardy!” record for second-most consecutive wins. Yesss!!
  • Who’s awkward on the phone? This girl. Right here.
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty-Six!
  • Wordle: five guesses.
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0. It’s been 0 for a while now, I know.
  • Currently feeling: Another late night, but it’s all good. I’ll sleep at a reasonable hour tomorrow.
  • Currently looping: I’m With Her’s “Call My Name.”

Day Six Hundred and Eighty-One (1/22/22)

  • Did the FES cycle. Watched another episode of “Succession.”
  • Helped a friend declutter some household items.
  • Does anyone else watch the X-Games? These ski events are ridiculous.
  • Video chat with my bestie! How is it we always have a ridiculous amount of things to catch up on?
  • YEAH, NINERS!!! Sorry, I usually like Green Bay, but Aaron Rodger is a ridiculous person and I can’t with him anymore.
  • The battery that operates the remote for my door died. So now I have to replace that.
  • Wordle: three guesses.
  • Currently feeling: Didn’t get much done on the dissertation today, but at least I got to be social?
  • Currently looping: Aoife O’Donovan has a new album out! It’s called “Age of Apathy,” and it’s brilliant.

Day Six Hundred and Eighty-Two (1/23/22)

  • Caught up with “The Book of Boba Fett.” Love Fennic Shand.
  • Put some WD-40 on my front casters because they were squeaking. So nice not to hear excess squeaking.
  • Finally backed up my computer! And just in time, because I’ve been doing some chapter four prep.
  • I’ve been finding so many relevant things today! #productivitysundays
  • I feel so much less anxious about how this chapter might shape up.
  • Okay, the NFL playoffs have been bonkers this weekend. Absolutely bonkers. Very excited for an LA v. SF matchup.
  • This girl has agreed to play chess online in the near future. She is terrible at chess. But sure, another hobby, why not.
  • Wordle: Three tries.
  • Currently feeling: So much dissertationing today! I keep telling myself that I got this fourth chapter. Just keep planning and writing and it’ll happen.
  • Currently looping: Aoife O’Donovan’s “Age of Apathy.” Sarah Jarosz’s music makes me think of Texas, but Aoife O’Donovan makes me think of upstate New York. Do I want to visit either? No, but they sound lovely.

Day Six Hundred and Eighty-Three (1/24/22)

  • Did the FES cycle. Watched another episode of “Succession.”
  • Well, this is painfully accurate.
  • Oh, kitchen sink, why must you vex me so? <sigh> Might need a new faucet.
  • Got a pre-op covid test and had a nice time wheeling around to the tunes of Sarah Jarosz. Although there might be a tiny shard of glass embedded in one of my tires now.
  • Virtual dinner date while watching “Jeopardy!”, “Wheel of Fortune,” and “The Bachelor.” I guess this is a thing now.
  • Wordle: Four guesses!
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty-Seven!
  • Currently feeling: So glad I did a ton of dissertationing yesterday, because I got nothing of that sort done today.
  • Currently looping: Sarah Jarosz’s “Build Me Up From Bones” album. SO GOOD.

Day Six Hundred and Eighty-Four (1/25/22)

  • Had a meeting with my advisor. My chapter four ideas have the green light, so, that’ll be the objective while I’m in recovery mode.
  • Went outside to get some treats from the nearby bakery.
  • Virtual tea with my sister!
  • Call with my bestie, who is killing it in Mercury retrograde ❤
  • Working on an article for something I hope other historians will take to heart. Also hoping that I understood the assignment.
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty-Eight!
  • Wordle: Three guesses!
  • Currently feeling: I think I was supposed to do something to prep for my procedure today. And now I’m worrying that I might not be able to do it tomorrow. Oh dear.
  • Currently looping: Sarah Jarosz’s “Gone Too Soon.” I first heard this song yesterday and immediately stopped what I was doing to listen. Dang, Sarah. This deep cut is everything.

Day Six Hundred and Eighty-Five (1/26/22)

  • Prep for procedure day.
  • Oof.
  • But! I got to chat with a friend this morning who I hadn’t heard from in a while, so that was lovely =)
  • Hello, hospital. Why, yes, I am coming in tomorrow for a procedure. What do you mean I’m not on the schedule? You’re missing a test result that I need to send?
  • Bureaucracy, the ultimate headache provider.
  • I am now on the schedule. Huzzah.
  • NO, AMY, NOOOO! #jeopardysadness
  • Wordle: Four guesses!
  • Currently feeling: So freaking nervous for tomorrow.
  • Currently looping: Continuing with the majesty that is Sarah Jarosz’s “Build Me Up From Bones” album.

Day Six Hundred and Eighty-Six (1/27/22)

  • Procedure Day! I am so freaking dehydrated.
  • Fell asleep in the waiting room several times. Occasionally woke up to find another patient staring at me. ‘Twas weird.
  • Feeling the love from all of the people wishing me good luck ❤
  • Whoever invented the Bair Hugger is a genius.
  • My mother’s here! There are noodles aplenty.
  • Anesthesia is fun! WHOOOO!
  • Also, anesthesia causes you to do the equivalent of drunk dialing. “Just wanted to hear your voice.” Who says that? Me, apparently.
  • Let the wound care begin.
  • Wordle: Five guesses!
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty-Nine!
  • Currently feeling: Relieved to have the procedure done, but anxious about the next six weeks of wound care. To quote Thor, “Allfathers, give me strength.”
  • Currently looping: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes’ “Home.”

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, get vaccinated/boosted, and stay safe during the nor’easter!
