Week of 1/13-1/19

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I took an online defensive driving course (and failed my own voice verification), watched football playoffs, and almost finished “Andor”! Daily summaries below!

January 13, 2023

  • Happy Friday the 13th? I used to dress in all black and give out brownies on Friday the 13th back in middle school. Alas, I did not have time to bake brownies today.
  • Emails. Editing a thing. I refuse to work for free like this again.
  • Worked out with an SCI trainer. I seem to have gotten tight again. Ugh.
  • Had to go to the UPS Store to get something notarized and scanned. For some reason, the scan did not get to my email. GAH.
  • Halfway through “Andor”! Still no intention of bingeing the second half, but it’s well-done.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: Kind of realizing that I was supposed to have applied to dissertation completion things while I was like, actively writing and researching chapters. Except I guess I didn’t have enough confidence in what I was doing to even ask for money. Like, “Hey…this thing isn’t written yet, but give me monies?” Whereas now, I’m like, “Hey, just need a push to get over the finish line and also workshop this because I couldn’t workshop during the pandemic.” Is that something to apply for funds for? I don’t even know. I should ask my advisor.
  • Currently looping: WE HAVE NEW KAMELOT! “One More Flag in the Ground” is like, a power metal warrior anthem.

January 14, 2023

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Did grocery shopping. The Whole Foods near me is getting more and more foot traffic, which is good for them, but annoying for me.
  • Made it back before the flurries started.
  • One of my YouTube music friends reached out to do a collaboration, so I may actually post something this year on my channel. And it’s going to be a ballad with someone who is much better at playing the piano than I am.
  • Stopped watching the Chargers-Jaguars game to watch the next episode of “Andor” (I think it picked up? Like, a little?), then flipped back and dang! Didn’t see that comeback coming. But also I just want to shout, “BORRRRTLES!” even though he had nothing to do with the game.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: Didn’t get as much done as I wanted to today, but what else is new?
  • Currently looping: The Killers’ “Battle Born” album. I should really give more time to albums from over a decade ago that are still awesome.

January 15, 2023

  • So I take it everyone who isn’t attached to a team is rooting for Buffalo, right?
  • Because I’m a fan of them getting to the Superbowl at the very least.
  • Went outside for matcha and a bit of shopping.
  • Okay, this wheelchair cupholder only works if the beverage is half full. I think I should’ve put it lower on my chair.
  • My boyfriend’s here! He brought a sandwich.
  • He’s being a real sport putting up with my need to watch NFL playoffs.
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: Just a nice quiet day of wheeling around and watching sports.
  • Currently looping: My Chemical Romance’s “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” album. Seriously underrated.

January 16, 2023

  • Scanned files and learned how to take separate scans and turn them into one PDF.
  • Worked out with an SCI trainer!
  • Got a facial with a new facialist. She wasn’t very chatty and didn’t try to talk me into buying certain services or products, so I liked her.
  • Probably should have answered emails today, but I was doing laundry and cleaning the shower.
  • Lol, Tom Brady’s team is getting their butts kicked.
  • Wordle: In three!
  • Currently feeling: Kind of grateful that I haven’t received any MLK sales emails. Like, capitalism is willing to leave this day alone. For now.
  • Currently looping: No music today, just lots of tidying up.

January 17, 2023

  • Looks like my shower needs to be repaired. It’s going to be three weeks. Ugh.
  • Went to Push to Walk! I am tired.
  • Bubble tea, because of course.
  • Started the online defensive driving course I’m supposed to take before the driving test. It repeatedly checks to make sure it’s still you taking the course, and makes you call in to do voice verification.
  • How in blazes did I fail my own voice verification?!
  • UGH.
  • They had to log me in again after I called some helpline. GAH.
  • Wordle: In three!
  • Currently feeling: Well, I’m about a fifth into this defensive driving thing, so at least I’m working on that.
  • Currently looping: My own voice verification, because now I need to practice sounding like myself.

January 18, 2023

  • Driving lesson went well! Only got honked at for driving too cautiously once. My parallel parking needs some more work though.
  • Got lunch with my mother afterwards. And then got to restock my tea at my favorite place to get tea in Brooklyn, and went to a cooking store that had an adorable and useful measuring chalkboard outside the store.
  • Worked on more of this online driving course.
  • It took nine episodes, but “Andor” has finally picked up.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: I still need to answer emails. And I hope my advisor’s okay with me not working on an introduction at the moment because I’m trying to learn how to drive.
  • Currently looping: Still loving The Killers’ “Battle Born” album.

January 19, 2023

  • Had a urologist appointment to check my kidneys and bladder, because that’s what you do when you have a neurogenic bladder. They’re looking good, so huzzah!
  • Then got bubble tea, because good medical news warrants bubble tea (also my mother and I just really like bubble tea).
  • Finished my online driving course, so that means I can schedule a driving test soon. More huzzah!
  • I’m watching the Food Network’s “House of Fang” as a “kind of on in the background” show, and I’m mostly watching for all the food videography.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: Happy to keep moving forward with the driver’s license process. I’m surprised that the NYC test doesn’t have a highway component (you’d think they’d test your ability to drive on like, the FDR or something), so I might have to start some kind of driving lessons that’s more geared towards highway driving. Also I need to make sure I don’t have a highway phobia.
  • Currently looping: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Show Your Bones” album from 2006. Such a throwback.

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, stay healthy, and let me know what thought of “Andor” if you’ve seen it!
