Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone is staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I learned that my favorite cupcake shop is coming back, finished “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and seriously started thinking about getting a tattoo. Daily summaries below!
Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Seven (6/17/22)
- Went to Push to Walk!
- It’s 90 degrees and humid. You know my mother and I are getting bubble tea.
- New kitchen faucet! Huzzah!
- Yay, Mets!
- New “The Umbrella Academy” in less than a week! Can’t wait!
- Wordle: In four!
- Currently feeling: Trying to work on going to bed earlier. Always easier said than done, but then I get stressed when I don’t? Yeah, working on it.
- Currently looping: Turns out there are very few live performances of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” I listened to some that purported to be live, but they sounded wayyy too close to the studio recording. Don’t get me wrong, some people sound like the studio recording live, but even if they match the pitch of a studio recording, their own voice will sound different from a studio mix (or it’ll sound different with the live band playing, anyway, there’s a difference). So then I was directed to this one, and thank goodness, because it’s amazing.
Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Eight (6/18/22)
- Did the FES cycle. Got caught up in Spiritbox’s “Holy Roller” and the fact that a mere few months ago, Will Ramos joined the band to sing it. I wish the audio quality was better, because from what I could hear from Will’s mic, this was epic.
- And Harper (the nine-year-old who screams with amazing technique and scares AGT judges) joined for “Holy Roller” another night! Incredible!
- Metal is awesome, folks.
- Movie night! We watched “My Cousin Vinny” and ate doughnuts.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: Marisa Tomei is a national treasure.
- Currently looping: Lorna Shore’s live performance of “Immortal.”
Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Nine (6/19/22)
- Called my dad for Father’s Day!
- Alas, Mets.
- Grocery shopping with my boyfriend. There were random impulse buys that involved hot sauce. Yay, domesticity ^_^
- Watched old episodes of “The Simpsons.”
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: Very chill Sunday.
- Currently looping: Whatever they were playing on the speakers at Whole Foods.
Day Eight Hundred and Thirty (6/20/22)
- Music things! I have a song that’s kind of coming along.
- Worked out in my standing frame.
- A black bear was sighted by my graduate school campus (like, near where the grad students live). I am grateful not to live right by campus.
- Yay, Mets!
- My boyfriend, watching the Stanley Cup finals: “Why is this so boring?” Alrighty, he’s not a hockey fan. There are worse things.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: Sleepy.
- Currently looping: Hockey noises? I don’t know, I guess this was a dull hockey game, especially considering one team scored six goals and the other scored two.
Day Eight Hundred and Thirty-One (6/21/22)
- Went to Push to Walk!
- TWO LITTLE RED HENS IS COMING BACK! REJOICE!
- Okay, I really want a tattoo. I need to think on designs. I could go sweet (a wrist wraparound with musical notes), intense (the date of my accident on the back of my neck), intense and sentimental (the previous suggestion, but with the line, “I will be more than my survival” from Evanescence’s “Part of Me”), academic badassery (small crests of every institution where I’ve earned a degree on my inner forearm, with the line “She can go anywhere” beneath it (it’s what the head nurse at Kennedy Krieger told my father when he asked about whether I could go to college)), or some way to combine the wheelchair heart symbol from 3E Love with a treble clef.
- Just brainstorming.
- Actually, I really like the idea of academic badassery. But that’ll have to wait until after I get my doctorate. Maybe.
- Yay, I’ve been approved for academic reenrollment! Year G6, here I come! (Cue Far East Movement’s “Like a G6”)
- The Mets are sad, but at least the Giants beat the Braves.
- Wordle: In two!
- Currently feeling: Maybe no university crests, and just the line, “She can go anywhere.” The important thing is that I’ll know what it means. I’m serious about this tattoo.
- Currently looping: Regina Spektor’s live performance of “Becoming All Alone.” Love her ❤
Day Eight Hundred and Thirty-Two (6/22/22)
- Did the FES cycle. Researched some tattoo shops. One of the #triotime ladies helped me with the search.
- Yup, I’m thinking “she can go anywhere” on my forearm. Fine line. It’s going to be sweet.
- Now to figure out where to go.
- Therapy!
- Sent hella emails and scheduled appointments. It’s going to be like, months before I get a new wheelchair.
- Oof, Mets sweep. And to be swept by a garbage team. (Garbage in that the team should have a World Series title revoked on account of cheating, not garbage in terms of their current win percentage. That’s pretty good.)
- Thank goodness I ordered a new wheelchair back and cushion for my current chair. They should arrive at some point soon. But like, this frame is also nearly seven years old. And even though this frame is super durable, I haven’t taken the best care of it, so a new one may be in order >.<
- Ooh, nifty recipes for my lazy self!
- Hey Delta, maybe you could get your act together and stop damaging wheelchairs?
- Watched the finale for “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Loved it. Also watched “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,” which was way more of a horror movie than I thought it would be. Like, yikes. But also, dang, that was a fun movie.
- Huzzah for Stanley Cup overtime!
- Wordle: In four!
- Currently feeling: Today was productive, so that’s good.
- Currently looping: Spiritbox’s live performance of “Blessed Be.” So freaking good. I really need to get back to my harsh vocal lessons.
Day Eight Hundred and Thirty-Three (6/23/22)
- Went to Push to Walk!
- Got my new wheelchair backrest! I have no idea how to install it.
- Got a Theragun! Now to just figure out how to use it properly.
- Also did laundry. Exciting.
- Wordle: Whoops.
- Currently feeling: I learned today that Tom Hehir, my advisor while at HGSE, passed away. His “Inclusive Education” course changed my life, and showed me a way of teaching that can be accessible to a wider range of students than previously thought possible. I am grateful to have learned from such a knowledgeable and kind person.
- Currently looping: The sound of a Theragun?
Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, wear a mask, and think about a teacher who really influenced your life trajectory!
