Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I watched more Olympic trials, had my fourteenth injuriversary, and accidentally caused a very tiny fire in my apartment. Daily summaries below!
Day Six Hundred and Sixty-Six (1/7/22)
- Went to Push to Walk for the first time in a couple of weeks. So tired.
- My mother and I had ramen, followed by panettone, while watching ice dancing. Love Olympic trials.
- Watched the women’s free skate Nationals.
- YES, GET IT, MARIAH! <sobs> Also, performing to k.d. Lang’s “Hallelujah”?? So much sobbing.
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 17.
- Currently feeling: I was sleepy all day, but I checked my vitals, and I’m fine. I think I just need to go to bed earlier.
- Currently looping: Brandi Carlile’s “Sinners, Saints and Fools.” I’m all about this album right now.
Day Six Hundred and Sixty-Seven (1/8/22)
- Did the FES cycle. Watching an interview between my vocal coach and Melissa Bonny (of Ad Infinitum). I love hearing musicians talk about vocal technique.
- FaceTimed with a friend from college who I haven’t seen in so long. Once things are safe, they’re coming here for a visit. It’s long overdue.
- #triotime catchup! We got takeout, drank wine, and watched figure skating. ‘Twas lovely ❤
- Omg, Hubbell and Donahue. They came in second overall in ice dancing, but this free skate was the top scorer, and omg, it is beautiful.
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
- Currently feeling: I still need to write emails. Egad. Well, there’s always tomorrow.
- Currently looping: Franz Ferdinand’s “You Could Have It So Much Better” album. So underrated.
Day Six Hundred and Sixty-Eight (1/9/22)
- Caught up on “The Book of Boba Fett.” Love that we’re learning so much about Tatooine.
- Was happy to see Nathan Chen win yet another Nationals title, but oof, Vincent Zhou’s routine was tough to watch. He’s going to be magnificent if sent to the Olympics, I know it.
- Went on a virtual date. So much for attempting not to date this year.
- Hey look, the Giants and Jets are both embarrassing. But I’ll take the Bills winning the AFC over the Patriots any day.
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 17.
- Currently feeling: Virtual dates are weird. Blasted Omicron.
- Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Emotion” album. First, I listened to the album the whole way through, and then I kept relistening to things I especially liked. Dang, this is catchy.
Day Six Hundred and Sixty-Nine (1/10/22)
- Had a bit of an exciting morning when I accidentally set a small fire in my apartment. The flames were doused, and my air purifier was carried to the hallway to rid the area of the smoke. It worked quite hard for about 30-45 minutes, and then eliminated the straggling smoke within another hour. Good going, Val.
- Did the FES cycle.
- Music hangout! Really need to get to writing some new material soon-ish. Also learned that I can totally record two tracks in Ableton, which I was not aware I could do before.
- Where has this leggings guide been all my life?
- Phone call with my sister!
- Phone call with my bestie, who assured me that dousing the flames was all I needed to do this morning (I started panicking if the air quality was okay in my apartment, even though I could no longer detect any smoke in the air).
- Did a brief bit of vocal practice, and some harsh vocal screams. I think around March, I’ll sign up again for lessons.
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 8.
- Currently feeling: Only you can prevent apartment fires?
- Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Let’s Get Lost.” It’s so cute, I can’t.
Day Six Hundred and Seventy (1/11/22)
- Went to Push to Walk! It is COLD outside.
- A friend stopped by to pick something up, and gave me some stemless wine glasses, so maybe now I won’t have to ask my friends to drink out of plastic cups in the future.
- Started working on putting my chapter four bibliography together.
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty-One!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
- Currently feeling: Like I need to get this bibliography done. That way, I can go deep into chapter content and actually figure this thing out.
- Currently looping: Halsey’s “Girl is a Gun.”
Day Six Hundred and Seventy-One (1/12/22)
- Happy fourteenth injuriversary to me?
- Playlist of invincibility music is on all day.
- “Book of Boba Fett” new episode is on. It is accompanied by a cup of earl grey tea from my favorite tea shop, and a homemade chocolate croissant. Today is for happy things.
- Therapy! So much to talk about.
- Wheeled myself to the doctor for a pre-op visit. Took a covid test because a trainer from my gym tested positive (even though I haven’t worked with him in a couple of weeks, we still occupied the same space), and I wanted to be safe. This girl is negative. Huzzah!
- Amy Schneider!
- Phone call with my bestie!
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty-Two!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
- Currently feeling: When I think back to everything I went through to get to this point, it’s overwhelming. I know there’s still so far to go (paralysis never sleeps), but I also think about how bleak the prognosis was, and how hard my family worked to get me here. We take nothing for granted. This could have gone a thousand terrible ways, and I will never forget that. And now, here I am with a support network that fills me with joy, and a home in my favorite city (even if there are flocks of pigeons that literally make me fear for my life in my quest for cookies). Here’s to remembering the worst and working towards the best.
- Currently looping: My Invincibility Playlist from Spotify.
Day Six Hundred and Seventy-Two (1/13/22)
- My mother’s here! She made ginger shortbread. Huzzah!
- Went to the urologist. My bladder is healthy! Huzzah (again)!
- Finally wrote up most of a preliminary bibliography!
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Eighty-Three!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
- Currently feeling: ‘Twas a day full of huzzahs. But also I’m still behind on things.
- Currently looping: Anna Nalick’s “Shine.” It’s so much better than “Breathe (2am),” but that’s just my hot take.
Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, get vaccinated/boosted, and stay warm!
