Self-Isolation Diaries – Week 88

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I finished catching up with “Stranger Things,” went to an Iliza Shlesinger show, and listened to a lot of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well.” Daily summaries below!

Day Six Hundred and Ten (11/12/21)

  • Had a zoom call with a medieval colleague. Am feeling a lot less like I have no idea what I’m doing (also, Psalters are awesome). Huzzah!
  • Went to Push to Walk!
  • Watched some of “The Great British Baking Show” with my mother.
  • Okay, I learned that this amazingly delicious pastry exists, and the world needs to know. Have I tried it yet? No. But I need to.
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Fifty-Four!
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 15.
  • Currently feeling: I really need to clean my makeup brushes. I keep making a note to clean them, but then the day gets away from me. I shall try again tomorrow.
  • Currently looping: Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).” That’s right, Taylor’s Version of “Red” is out. And there was so much hype (in my mind, at least) around this new extended version of one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs. It cuts like any of her breakup songs, and she knows where to twist the knife, but I’m still attached to the original shorter version.

Day Six Hundred and Eleven (11/13/21)

  • Did the FES cycle. Watched the latest “The Problem with Jon Stewart.” He covered guns, and the relationship between domestic violence and mass shootings (and how laws should be strengthened to take guns away from domestic abusers). And to discuss domestic violence, two women came on the show who had both sustained an SCI from being shot by their husbands. Needless to say, the show hit hard.
  • On a lighter note, movie night! “Thor: Ragnarok” continues to be amazing (I may have watched it over 20 times now, and I have no intention of stopping there).
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
  • Currently feeling: I am going to bed late, but it’s totally worth it.
  • Currently looping: Sarah Jarosz’s cover of Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.” Just makes me want to dance around.

Day Six Hundred and Twelve (11/14/21)

  • Finally cleaned hella makeup brushes.
  • Finished season three of “Stranger Things,” and now I am all caught up! And also went through a whole gamut of emotions. The storytelling was done really well (like, the way the arcs all came together at the end was pretty great). So excited for season four next year!
  • Got a few logistical things done, so that was nice.
  • Practiced some flute and vocals.
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 5.
  • Currently feeling: This is probably going to be another week without a video uploaded to YouTube. Things have been hectic. I have something of a social life now. Schoolwork is all-consuming. But my goal is to upload at least one video this month. We shall see if I can make that happen.
  • Currently looping: Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version).” Still confident in saying that I prefer this shorter version (which is still long compared to her other songs), but the ten-minute version is slowly growing on me.

Day Six Hundred and Thirteen (11/15/21)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Music hangout! Guitar buddy helped me mix “Jackass.”
  • Went to see Iliza Shlesinger’s “Back in Action” show with a former Push to Walk aide (who now has her DPT because she’s a badass). My face hurts from laughing. ‘Twas a fabulous show. And of course, I was double-masked, because the venue was sold out.
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Fifty-Five!
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 1.
  • Currently feeling: Going to bed late again, but it was worth it to actually attend a comedy show with an awesome person ^_^
  • Currently looping: Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” performed live on SNL. It’s continuing to grow on me. The original version makes me want to cry alone in my apartment. This version makes me want to cry as I set an ex’s possessions on fire (preferably not while in my apartment, because fire hazards).

Day Six Hundred and Fourteen (11/16/21)

  • My mother and I tried a new pastry. ‘Twas delightful.
  • Went to Push to Walk!
  • Finished watching last week’s episode of “The Great British Baking Show” with my mother.
  • Got some new files for a collab. I shall work on it over the weekend.
  • Finally replied to some emails. But there are more to go! And I need to read a colleague’s paper for a workshop tomorrow.
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Fifty-Six!
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
  • Currently feeling: Who has eleventy billion things to do without the time to do them? This girl, right here, in need of a Time Turner.
  • Currently looping: Brandi Carlile’s live performance of “The Joke.” Wow. Just. Wow. Iconic.

Day Six Hundred and Fifteen (11/17/21)

  • Cohort meeting! It was lovely to see so many faces ^_^
  • Medieval workshop! The paper was 93 pages long. We were told that we didn’t have to read all of it, but it was something that wasn’t exactly in my field, so, the more context the better.
  • Recorded some flute for a YouTube collab.
  • Got a facial. I think my habit of sleeping with the covers over half my face might be contributing to some of my breakouts. Sigh. This is what happens when you try to keep warm.
  • Practiced some guitar. It’s been so long.
  • Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Fifty-Seven!
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
  • Currently feeling: Definitely mismanaged time today, but I still got a decent amount done.
  • Currently looping: Garbage’s “Bright Tonight.”

Day Six Hundred and Sixteen (11/18/21)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Therapy!
  • My mother’s here! She baked a blueberry pie.
  • My mother and I watched “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” I just want Awkwafina in everything.
  • Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
  • Currently feeling: I was supposed to answer a bunch of emails today and completely forgot to do so, until it was after 11pm and I needed to get ready for bed. I’ll write the things tomorrow.
  • Currently looping: Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (Sad Girl Autumn Version).” Have four out of seven songs this week been some form of “All Too Well”? Yes. Totally worth it.

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, get vaccinated, and watch something featuring Awkwafina (because she’s the national treasure you didn’t know you needed)!
