Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as possible. This week, I revised a dissertation chapter for a medieval workshop, watched sad baseball, and watched the first two films of the “Scream” franchise. Daily summaries below!
Day Five Hundred and Eighty-Two (10/15/21)
- Went to Push to Walk!
- Made a playlist of five songs that calm me down for a “Binge Mode” Facebook group I’m in. You can listen to it here.
- My mother and I watched some of “The Great British Baking Show.” ‘Twas lovely.
- Writing workshop! Interrupted by my very painful period.
- My lower abdomen hates me. And my bladder keeps filling up.
- So dehydrated. How am I still peeing every thirty minutes? It’s been three hours.
- And for those wondering, no, there’s no fever. My temperature has ranged between 98.2 and 99.4 today, starting the morning off at 98.6 and going to bed at 98.2. (For reference, 100.4 is considered febrile.) So much evidence for the roughest period I’ve had in years.
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Thirty-Seven!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
- Currently feeling: Is this what endometriosis feels like?
- Currently looping: Malia J’s cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” You might recognize it from “Black Widow.”
Day Five Hundred and Eighty-Three (10/16/21)
- Did the FES cycle. Watched the latest “The Problem with Jon Stewart.”
- Called a gynecologist. This is not endometriosis. She recommended hella ibuprofen and explained it’s primary dysmenorrhea (but like, more than just regular cramps). She said what I was feeling on Wednesday was the equivalent of the hormone that gets released when a woman goes into labor. So, that explains the pain.
- Watched “Scream.” It’s the perfect “I’m never going to move to the suburbs” movie.
- Thor night! We watched the first “Thor” movie. “Ragnarok” will be next.
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0.
- Currently feeling: So glad the ibuprofen helped me enjoy watching a delightful movie with even more delightful people ^_^
- Currently looping: Sarah Jarosz’s “Over the Edge” performance with Jedd Hughes.
Day Five Hundred and Eighty-Four (10/17/21)
- Did some vocal exercises.
- Started revising a chapter to submit to a medieval workshop. Oof. There’s a lot of revising that needs to get done.
- Caught up on “Titans.” Well, they’re trying. But no.
- Yes! This was what I was worried about with “The Last Duel” movie after I watched the trailer. I’ve read the book, and the trailer made me think that perhaps I had misread it. Now, I don’t think I have.
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 14. I have maybe forty more to go.
- Currently feeling: Might have to take another break from my channel this week. This chapter is going to need hella revisions. And this French scholar whose work I had relied on so heavily actually cited from some sketchy primary sources. <sigh> Why am I so trusting?!
- Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Your Type.” Where was this song during all my unhealthy college crushes?
Day Five Hundred and Eighty-Five (10/18/21)
- Did the FES cycle. Still have mild menstrual cramps. Dang. My ovaries must’ve been mad at me for something this month.
- Did some vocal exercises.
- Went outside to get something to eat after the cramps subsided. It’s sweater weather!!
- Tutored some Latin.
- FaceTimed with a friend in my program! I hadn’t seen her in years and missed her face. And her bluntness.
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Thirty-Eight!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 5. I’ve been busy, okay?
- Currently feeling: I think this chapter I need to revise for this medieval workshop needs some serious work. Oof. I’m grateful that my advisor is a kind reader, but also, dang, I’m so glad he told me what needed to be fixed.
- Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Warm Blood.” Love “Emotion.”
Day Five Hundred and Eighty-Six (10/19/21)
- Went to Push to Walk!
- Dang, this NLCS is fun. But WTF is with these Dodgers fans leaving when their team is only three runs down in the eighth? Such poser fans. Also, as a rule, you shouldn’t leave if the game is in a save situation. Rude.
- Did some work on revising this chapter. There will very likely not be a music cover this week, because I think I need to send this in before the end of the weekend.
- Did some vocal practice. I know I’ve praised this singing straw before, but dang, it really does work.
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Thirty-Nine!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 10.
- Currently feeling: Very much not looking forward to reading over this dumpster fire of a chapter and wincing every time I realize that this was a thing I sent to my advisor. Oof. On the bright side, at least it’ll look so much better by the time it goes before the dissertation committee.
- Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Emotion.”
Day Five Hundred and Eighty-Seven (10/20/21)
- Oven was supposed to be repaired today, but the appliance repair people were sent the wrong part. Alas.
- Watched “Raya and the Last Dragon” throughout the day. It’s cute. Awkwafina is the type of dragon I’d like to go to afternoon tea with. Or dim sum.
- Why did I think I could revise this chapter while watching “Scream 2”?
- The moral of the “Scream” franchise is never to settle down in the suburbs. That place is dangerous.
- Got a facial. The esthetician felt a lot of tension. <sigh>
- Wow, the ALCS is sad.
- As is the NLCS.
- Total Times Outside: One Hundred and Forty!
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 0. This revision needs to happen.
- Currently feeling: Carly Rae Jepsen’s album is really good chapter revision music. I have no idea why, but it is.
- Currently looping: Regina Spektor’s “Sellers of Flowers.”
Day Five Hundred and Eighty-Eight (10/21/21)
- Did the FES cycle. Started the latest season of “Legends of Tomorrow,” in which my favorite band of misfits gets stranded in 1925 and become bank robbers who steal less than $100 (they don’t need more than that and don’t want to cause any major timeline shifts), and then accidentally kill a major historical figure, which then leads to one of the bank robbers putting her true crime podcasting skills to use (in, um, covering up the crime). Can you tell how much I love the over the top ridiculousness of this show?
- My mother’s here! She baked apple pie. We caught up with “The Great British Baking Show” as we nommed.
- Tried on new leggings for the winter that fit. Now to find some knee-high boots.
- Therapy!
- Turned my four-page CV into a one-page resumé. The “Education” section is twice as long as the “Experience” section, which makes me lol.
- Worked on my medieval workshop submission. So much Latin. But it is undoubtedly a better chapter than what I submitted to my advisor, so, yay for that (even if the back of my mind is full of fear that my advisor thinks I’m a slacker who has no idea what she’s doing).
- Dang. Chris Taylor. Three home runs?
- Total videos watched by other YouTubers: 2.
- Currently feeling: Somehow productive yet underwhelmed with myself?
- Currently looping: Carly Rae Jepsen’s live performance of “Run Away With Me” from Pitchfork’s Music Festival in 2016. I love the 45-second intro.
Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, get vaccinated, and hope for a better World Series matchup for next season!
