Week of 6/16-6/22

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone is staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I finished season three of “The Great,” edited a non-academic thing, and worked on my dissertation. Daily summaries below!

June 16, 2023

  • Editing, editing, editing.
  • Do you ever edit things and realize you’re not conveying the point you want to convey? And so you end up tinkering with a couple of pages for like, two hours?
  • More catheter drama. Ugh. But at least things are heading in the right direction.
  • Worked out with an SCI trainer!
  • I still need to clean my makeup brushes!
  • By the time I thought to turn on the Mets game, it was over. Dang. That was fast.
  • But yay, they won!
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: I really hope you all like the essay I’m working on.
  • Currently looping: Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” album. It’s very nearly a no-skip album, and may be her best one. Then again, I haven’t listened to much of her new stuff, so take that assessment with a grain of salt.

June 17, 2023

  • Did the FES cycle. I’m about an episode and a half away from finishing “The Great,” and then I’m going to start watching the next season of “Outlander.”
  • My boyfriend’s here! We went outside to try a doughnut place. ‘Twas yummers.
  • We also wandered around a park while I worried that a downpour would begin at any moment.
  • ‘Twas just light rain.
  • We ended up watching “Monsters Inc.” because it was on cable.
  • Currently feeling: Still haven’t washed these makeup brushes. Someday.
  • Currently looping: Pop mix on Spotify.

June 18, 2023

  • Happy Father’s Day! I called my father.
  • The Mets need to stop losing these games by a run.
  • My boyfriend and I went outside to get Sichuan food, in our effort to use delivery apps as little as possible (and also to go for a nice stroll).
  • So much food. So much sodium.
  • Drank hella water when we got back. We also got back just in time for “Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing.”
  • I can’t believe how invested we are in the outcome of this show. So much drama.
  • Currently feeling: Huzzah for lazy Sundays =)
  • Currently looping: Not much music today.

June 19, 2023

  • Submitted a non-academic piece for online publication! We shall see if the editor likes it.
  • I’m going to work on my academic stuff this week at some point. Just a few dozen more pages of reading in Italian to go.
  • But also I’m looking at the weather forecast, and dang, it’s going to get super rainy later this week. Including when I’m supposed to be at an outdoor concert.
  • Perhaps this concert is not worth getting rained on.
  • My mother’s here! And she’s mostly chatting with my boyfriend while I work out with an SCI trainer. It’s a busy afternoon.
  • She also baked brownies! [Pictured!]
  • Is it just me, or are the “Jeopardy!” contestants lately kind of…not great at trivia?
  • Yay, Mets! Put the hurt on Houston!
  • Currently feeling: So excited to do some non-academic writing for the first time in a while. I mean, there’s my workshop with writing buddy, but nothing I write there is seeing the light of day for who knows how long. But this thing I just wrote might actually get out there, so, huzzah!
  • Currently looping: Not much music today.

June 20, 2023

  • Went to Push to Walk!
  • Got bubble tea afterwards. You know the drill.
  • My mother and I went to Brooklyn afterwards, so that was nice. Even nicer was the fact that the traffic was astonishingly clear (but that was because there was a fender bender earlier on the highway before we got on, so I’m sure the traffic was horrendous elsewhere).
  • The catheter saga continues. Good grief. How is it this difficult to switch catheter suppliers?
  • The Mets really know how to kill their own momentum. Gosh.
  • Got ready for bed while listening to the Dodgers-Angels game. Not every night you get to see Kershaw pitch to Ohtani and Trout.
  • Currently feeling: Busy day! But productive as well, so that’s good.
  • Currently looping: Mostly the sounds of baseball games.

June 21, 2023

  • Happy first day of summer!
  • But also, dang, it’s gray and sad out there.
  • Did some dissertation work, so huzzah!
  • Watched the Mets lose again. Darnit.
  • Therapy! Does anyone have this happen where they’re totally fine during a therapy session, and then three hours later they have a panic attack? No? Just me?
  • Quarterly wheelchair maintenance! Thank goodness for the check-up, because one of my brakes was actually hella loose.
  • Finished season three of “The Great.” Very excited to see what they’re going to do for season four (I think they approved another season? I mean, it could end here and I’d be okay with that, but I hope there’s more).
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: Why am I having a panic attack?
  • Currently looping: Unleash the Archers’ “Abyss” album. Still so good.

June 22, 2023

  • Did the FES cycle. Started season two of “Shadow and Bone.” The B plot is more entertaining than the A plot, but that’s not a bad thing.
  • The catheter saga continues, but maybe there are catheters in my future?
  • Today was like, the day things didn’t quite get resolved, but went in the right direction.
  • Put away groceries only to realize that I forgot to order olive oil. Whoops.
  • Was going to go see Trixie Mattel DJ, but it was an outdoor event and it’s kind of rainy with a bit of a chill out there, so I ended up not going. At least she has my ticket money, so I’m doing my part to support drag in that way, I guess?
  • No Mets game today, which is probably for the best given how they’ve been playing lately.
  • I’ve been on such an SNL YouTube kick lately, mostly for the cast that included Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Leslie Jones. This rap parody video is glorious.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: Glad today was productive. I am still somehow going to bed after midnight.
  • Currently looping: Lots of Britney Spears.

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, stay sane, and what’s your favorite SNL sketch?
