Self-Isolation Diaries – Week 118

Greetings, Internet! I hope everyone’s staying as safe and sane as can be. This week, I watched hella NBA and NHL playoffs, edited a dissertation chapter draft, and then sent it in to my advisor! Daily summaries below!

Day Eight Hundred and Twenty (6/10/22)

  • Went to Push to Walk! Tried a new gizmo that’s like a bike, but didn’t quite get the hang of it. We shall see how my hip flexors feel in the morning.
  • Renewed hella library books.
  • My mother and I stopped by our new favorite bubble tea place. Turns out splitting a bubble tea is enough so both of us don’t have too much caffeine in the afternoon.
  • Following the NBA finals just hoping for a seven-game series. At least now the series is tied at two games apiece?
  • The Mets are on Apple TV, which, like, is okay because I have Apple TV, but it’s not okay because putting baseball on obscure-ish streaming services is just plain rude.
  • Also, let’s go Mets!
  • Wordle: In four!
  • Currently feeling: The evening got away from me, and now it’s past midnight. Whoops. I should go to bed earlier tomorrow night.
  • Currently looping: Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “Love is Madness” feat. Halsey.

Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-One (6/11/22)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Fixing footnotes! And realizing that my Latin translations kind of suck, but my paraphrasing works well enough, so paraphrasing it is!
  • Did some grocery shopping. Whole Foods’ produce is a bit meh on Saturday nights.
  • But I’m still glad there’s a Whole Foods so close by.
  • Alas, Rangers. You had a good run. I still stand by my take that if you live in a city that doesn’t have a proper winter (i.e. my arbitrary standard that you need a winter coat for at least one month of the year), you shouldn’t have a professional hockey team. But that’s just me.
  • Alas, Mets. Dang, Mike Trout is definitely out of his slump.
  • Wordle: Didn’t get it. Well, my boyfriend gave me a clue after I had guessed five times, so I don’t count that as a win.
  • Currently feeling: Still past midnight. But I worked on my dissertation, so, I’m going to count that as a small victory.
  • Currently looping: Yes, I still love that Unleash the Archers concert.

Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Two (6/12/22)

  • Dissertation editing day!
  • But also, there’s a “Star Wars” marathon on television. Wait, those happen like every other weekend.
  • You ever look over a paragraph you wrote and realize you had a progression of thoughts in your head that just never made it onto the page coherently? Like, you kind of remember what you were talking about, but you have no idea how anyone else would understand? Yeah, so, that’s been fun to edit.
  • There are books scattered everywhere on my dining table.
  • First runthrough of edits complete! One more and then I can send this off to my advisor.
  • My boyfriend’s here! He arrived just as the Mets game started.
  • Yay, Mets!
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: Watched a Track and Field event earlier in the day that happened to be taking place at Icahn Stadium. For context, that’s where pretty much all my outdoor track meets were in high school. It’s so weird seeing it on television, knowing that I sat in the stands before and after my heats/races, hung out with people I thought I’d still be in touch with (thank goodness they’re out of my life now), took times and splits for the boys’ track team (especially for this one guy who didn’t deserve it, and no, I will never not be petty about that), and well, was at Icahn at a time when I could use way more of my body. Not gonna lie, I felt a weird and unexpected lump in my throat. Memory lane bites, folks.
  • Currently looping: Unleash the Archers’ “Through Stars.” Might be my favorite song off of their new album.

Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Three (6/13/22)

  • Music hangout! Finally figured out some chords.
  • Workout!
  • Facial! Oh, acne, please leave me alone.
  • My mission: Get my boyfriend to watch “Tangled.”
  • Wordle: In four!
  • Currently feeling: Dang, it’s hot outside.
  • Currently looping: My “Being Social” playlist.

Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Four (6/14/22)

  • Went to Push to Walk!
  • Bubble tea adventures with my mother! Splitting a bubble tea is still the perfect amount of afternoon caffeine.
  • It’s kind of nice having dinner with my mother and my boyfriend once a week =)
  • Yay, Mets! It’s also weird that both NYC teams were home at the same time.
  • Wordle: Whoops.
  • Currently feeling: Sleepy. It’s past midnight again and the bubble tea caffeine has worn off.
  • Currently looping: Unleash the Archers’ live performance of “Through Stars.” SO GOOD. And I can’t believe this was in NYC last September! Alas!

Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Five (6/15/22)

  • Dissertation chapter review day!
  • And also therapy!
  • Egad, when you catch lots of tiny errors and are convinced another runthrough would catch even more tiny errors, but you’re tired of looking at your draft, so off it goes to your advisor.
  • Oh my goodness, there’s a whole other element of this chapter that I should’ve included, but left out.
  • Too late, I’m sending it.
  • And now I can go grocery shopping!
  • And watch “Obi-Wan Kenobi”! Dang, I take back all my Hayden Christiansen hate. He just had bad dialogue to work with in the prequel films. Sorry, Hayden.
  • Learned how to refill a fountain pen.
  • Holy moly, my vocal coach put a camera down Will Ramos’ throat!!
  • Oh man, I’m so excited to have a mini break between chapters. I’m going to catch up on all the things I’ve been putting off while writing. Like, cleaning makeup brushes. And my bathroom sink.
  • My life is glamorous.
  • Well, that was a sad Mets game.
  • All right, Stanley Cup overtime in game one! Rooting for Colorado, because I don’t root for teams in locations that don’t have winter (i.e. Tampa).
  • Wordle: In four!
  • Currently feeling: FOUR CHAPTERS DOWN, ONE OR TWO TO GO. Is my advisor going to hate this? Like this? I have no idea. I’ll find out when we eventually have a Zoom meeting. And then I’ll probably cry afterwards. I should stock up on ice cream.
  • Currently looping: Unleash the Archers’ “Faster Than Light.”

Day Eight Hundred and Twenty-Six (6/16/22)

  • Did the FES cycle.
  • Medical related phone calls! Because that’s what happens when you’ve submitted a chapter.
  • Writing workshop! Huzzah!
  • Yay, Mets!
  • And huzzah for Steph Curry! About time he got Finals MVP.
  • Wordle: In five!
  • Currently feeling: I don’t even follow basketball that closely, but I’m really happy for Steph Curry. Also there’s something sweet about watching top athletes cry tears of joy. Like, dang, you did the thing.
  • Currently looping: There’s a live Evanescence concert from Novarock!

Thanks so much for reading! Stay safe, wear a mask when it makes sense, and check out Unleash the Archers!
